Air India says new software aims to facilitate real-time reporting of in-flight incidents

Air India announced on Monday that it will use the UK-headquartered Ideagen’s Coruson enterprise cloud software application to improve safety management and facilitate real-time reporting of in-flight incidents.

The Tata Group airline’s announcement also comes amid at least three incidents of unruly passenger behavior on two international flights last year, for which the DGCA fined the airline for certain reporting gaps.

Coruson, the safety data software application, will be online effective May 1, 2023, facilitating real-time reporting of in-flight incidents, Air India said in a press release.

Air India said the application will largely eliminate paperwork requirements and ensure automated processes promptly relay critical information to key personnel and authorities. “This will also lead to timely action.”

The airline is also involved in sourcing iPads for pilots and crew members and at launch Coruson will also be available on those devices.

According to the press release, Coruson will continue to improve end-to-end safety management, including real-time information, reporting and status of in-flight incidents.

“Ideagen’s software covers all aspects of risk and gives the airline full visibility into safety data, from aircraft maintenance to cabin crew checks on board.

“It will provide Air India with complete transparency across the airline’s entire organization, allowing it to access and use the latest data to identify and mitigate potential risks, thereby improving operational security,” it said.

Henry Donohoe, Air India’s Head of Safety, Security and Quality, said the airline is aiming for a significant and comprehensive upgrade of existing systems and processes to ensure a seamless, real-time flow of information and data.

The introduction of Coruson will go a long way towards enhancing capabilities for the safety and well-being of passengers and crew, especially at a time when Air India is rapidly expanding its network, he added.

According to the press release, Ideagen has a customer base of more than 11,400, including more than 250 airlines.
