Saint-Cyprien: a journey into the spiritual heart of India

From January 25 to March 24, photographer Tilby Vattard presents his new photo series “Kashi Station” in the cultural center of Saint-Cyprien. This hang includes around sixty images, taken between 2014 and 2019 in Varanasi, India. The artist looks enchantingly at this city where the religious world and the modern world stand hand in hand. Considered the spiritual capital of India, Varanasi is a region where traces of ancient Hindu civilization still exist. Kashi Station is also the name of a train station, which for the artist evokes “an intermediate space where time stands still, where men wait to cross over to the other side of life”. The second part of the exhibition offers a transversal look at more recent works, three destinations being the highlight: Morocco, Andalusia and the Alps.

Valérie Jacquet-Violleau, deputy mayor in charge of culture, was present at the opening this Wednesday, welcoming the success of this photo exhibition: “I am delighted to be able to make a place like this available to artists, while offering an exhibition accessible to everyone” . The cultural center hosts Saint-Cyprien year-round clashes around photography and plastic arts with French or foreign artists.
