He was arrested by Delhi police from Bengaluru on January 6, 2023.

Mishra was accused of allegedly urinating on a 70-year-old woman in a drunken state in business class on an Air India flight on November 26 last year.

Delhi Police had registered the First Information Report (FIR) against him on January 4 following a complaint by the woman to Air India under Sections 354, 509 and 510 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 23 of the Indian Aircraft Code. Both the accused and the victim are from outside Delhi.

US-based financial services company Wells Fargo also fired its employee Shankar Mishra following the entire incident.

“Wells Fargo holds employees to the highest standards of professional and personal conduct and we find these allegations deeply disturbing. This person was fired from Wells Fargo. We are cooperating with law enforcement and request that any further inquiries be directed to them.”

In the bail statement, Shankar Mishra stated that he would continue to cooperate with the police and cooperate with the investigation in any way and form necessary. The scene of the crime, ie the plane, is already defaced. That the complainant willingly surrendered to the committee of inquiry despite the risk of being placed on a no-fly list and attempted to settle the matter amicably with the lady is unlikely to flee or pose a flight risk and categorically undertakes to respect all of him to comply with any instruction or requirement imposed by that court.

The applicant submits that continued detention would be pointless, bearing in mind that the applicant submits that he intends to cooperate with the police in this investigation.
