Badminton News: Women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan/M Thinaah have led several Malaysian badminton players into the second round of the India Open World Tour Super 750 tournament.

World number 6 Pearly/Thinaah defeated Ashwini Bhat-Shikha Gautam of India 21-8, 21-11 in the first round. They will then meet the Taiwanese couple Lee Chia Hsin/Teng Chun Hsun.

It’s definitely a better performance than Pearly/Thinaah who were eliminated in the first round of the Malaysian Open home tournament last week.

Mixed doubles duo Chen Tang Jie/Toh Ee Wei also reached the second round after defeating fellow countrymen Hoo Pang Ron/Teoh Mei Xing 21-17, 12-21, 21-19.

The two players who were paired last November will face Chinese fourth seeds Wang Yi Lyu/Huang Dong Ping in the second round.

Malaysian independent mixed doubles Tan Kian Meng/Lai Pei Jing were eliminated by Indonesian duo Dejan Ferdinansyah/Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja.

Malaysian world number 27 Ng Tze Yong lost 21-19, 21-14 to Chinese world number 22 Li Shifeng in men’s singles.

Shifeng will next face world No. 2 Lee Zii Jia in the second round.

Meanwhile, world champions Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik advanced to the men’s doubles second round under little pressure at the Indian Open in New Delhi.

The third seed was pushed hard in the opener by fellow countrymen Man Wei Chong/Tee Kai Wun but still managed to earn a 23-21 21-10 straight sets victory at KD Jadhav Indoor Hall.

Aaron/Wei Yik will next face Taiwanese pair Lee Jhe Huei/Yang Po Hsuan who advanced to the second round after winning 21-14, 21-13 over Japanese pair Keiichiro Matsui/Yoshinori Takeuchi.

Jhe Huei-Po Hsuan lost to world No. 3 pair Aaron-Wooi Yik in the first round of the Petronas Malaysian Open in Bukit Jalil last week.
