Horrified! Indian Airlines plane engine on fire during takeoff

A passenger plane suffered an engine fire while taking off from Delhi airport, India. India’s aviation regulator is currently investigating the incident.

Reported by news agency AFPSaturday (29/10/2022), airline flights Indigo was about to fly 184 people to the Bangaluru Technology Center and was just preparing for takeoff when suddenly flames were spotted. This forced the pilot to return to the start of the runway and evacuate the cabin.

No injuries were reported and officials said the plane was safely emptied.

“The priority is to carry out a detailed investigation into the incident and determine the causes engine fire“, Arun Kumar, head of the DGCA, told reporters.

“Fortunately, the fire was brought under control quickly and the aircraft is now grounded,” he added.

Passengers told local media they heard a loud explosion before seeing flames from the engines.

Indigo said the plane encountered technical problems, “immediately after that the pilot aborted takeoff and the plane returned safely.”

“All passengers and crew are safe and an alternative aircraft has been arranged to operate the flight, which took off at 12:16 p.m. Saturday,” the company said in a statement.
