The Yo-Yo test is part of the team selection criteria: BCCI decides during a review meeting

The Board of Cricket Control of India (BCCI) held a performance review meeting in Mumbai on Sunday. The meeting was attended by BCCI President Roger Binny, Honorary Secretary Jay Shah, Team India Captain Rohit Sharma, Head Coach of Team India Rahul Dravid, Head of National Cricket Academy (NCA) VVS Laxman and Selection Committee Chairman Chetan Sharma. Notably, BCCI has decided to hold a review meeting after India was eliminated from the semifinals of the ICC T20 World Cup.

A roadmap for the upcoming ODI World Cup in India was discussed at the meeting, along with issues related to player availability and workload management.

The physical condition of Indian cricketers is a concern, with players like Deepak Chahar often breaking down. First peacekeeper Jaspirt Bumrah has also been out for a long time with a back injury.

BCCI also has three main recommendations for the Indian cricket team going forward:

1. New players must play a substantial domestic season to be eligible for selection to the national team.

2. Yo-Yo and Dexa testing will now be part of the selection criteria and will be implemented in the central player pool specific roadmap.

3. Considering men’s FTP and ICC CWC 2023 preparations, NCA will work closely with IPL franchisees to monitor the target of Indian players participating in IPL 2023.

Notably, in 2022, Team India had a disappointing campaign at the Asian Cup in the United Arab Emirates, as well as the T20 World Cup in Australia.

In the Asian Cup, India failed to reach the final after losing to Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the Super Four stage.

In the T20 World Cup, India suffered a crushing 10 wicket loss to eventual champions England in the semifinals.
