BWF ranking: HS Prannoy reaches 8th place in the world ranking

Badminton News: Badminton India star HS Prannoy has regained his career-best eighth place in the latest BWF World Rankings released on Tuesday (12/27) evening.

The 30-year-old from Kerala, who was in fine form this year, reached eighth in 2018 for the first time before slipping to 34th in 2019.

However, several memorable performances this season, including a Thomas Cup victory, seven quarter-finals, two semi-finals and a second-place finish at the Swiss Open, have seen her rise like a phoenix in 2022.

HS Prannoy was unable to win the individual title but played a vital role in the Indian team’s historic victory in the Thomas Cup in Bangkok, Thailand.

His consistency earned him a place in the BWF World Tour end-of-season finals and a nomination for the BWF Player of the Year award.

Among other things, Lakshya Sen remains static at No. 7 in the world, while Kidambi Srikanth has dropped one spot to No. 12 in the world.

Out of action since winning the Commonwealth Games, two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu has slipped to seventh in the world in women’s singles, while Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty are stable at fifth in the world.

Rising pair MR Arjun/Dhruv Kapila moved up three places to world No. 21, while women’s doubles combination Gayatri Gopichand/Treesa Jolly, who won bronze at the CWG Birmingham, moved up one place to world No. 17 .

In mixed doubles, Ishaan Bhatnagar and Tanisha Crasto also moved up two places to reach 18th in the world.
