Badminton News: Mixed doubles pair Hoo Pang Ron / Teoh Mei Xing are set to take advantage of the opportunity presented to them after qualifying for the Malaysian Open from January 10-15 at Axiata Arena.
Hoo Pang Ron/Teoh Mei Xing, who were just a couple a month ago, managed to qualify for the home matches after Indian pair Ishaan Bhatnagar/Tanisha Crasto forfeited.
“I am very grateful to have the opportunity to participate in this tournament with Pang Ron. We just want to enjoy our matches and play our best,” said Mei Xing.
The couple are looking to build a promising start to their partnership.
In only their second tournament together, Pang Ron/Mei Xing clinched the Malaysia International Challenge lower tier title in Ipoh a week ago.
The currently No. 169-ranked pair will face a much tougher challenge at the Malaysia Open 2022 when they begin their competition against world No. 14 Japan Kyohei Yamashita-Naru Shinoya.
If they can pull off a win, Pang Ron/Mei Xing will face world number 7 Thom Gicquel/Delphine Delrue of France or world number 11 Rinov Rivaldy-Pitha Haningtyas of Indonesia in the second round.
Despite the difficult task ahead of them, Pang Ron-Mei Xing is determined to stay focused on his own game.
“We don’t want to think too much about who we are up against. We just want to perform and give our all on the pitch,” Mei Xing said.
Besides Pang Ron/Mei Xing, the other home pairings that will compete are Tan Kian Meng/Lai Pei Jing, Goh Soon Huat/Shevon Lai Jemie, Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying, and Chen Tang Jie/Toh Ee Wei.
Meanwhile, Mei Xing is looking forward to training with new national mixed doubles coach Nova Widianto.
“I am very excited to train under Coach Nova. I hope I can learn a lot from him and develop under his tutelage,” Mei Xing said.
