According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry’s website, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Sunday that China stands ready to work with India through steady and solid development of ties.
Addressing the reporters about China’s relations with India, Wang said, “China and India have maintained communications through diplomatic and military-to-military channels, and both countries are committed to maintaining stability in the border areas. We stand ready to work with India towards steady and solid growth of Sino-India relations.”
This statement was made against the backdrop of the December 9 duel between Indian and Chinese soldiers in the Tawang sector of Arunachal Pradesh.
After the clash, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MEA) said in a statement that India and China held the 17th round of Corps Commander Level Meeting at the Chushul-Moldo border meeting point on the Chinese side on Dec. 20, and agreed to maintain security and stability on the ground in the west sector.
“Meanwhile, both sides have agreed to maintain security and stability on the ground in the western sector,” the statement said.
The MEA statement said the two sides agreed to remain in close contact and maintain dialogue through military and diplomatic channels, and to work out a mutually acceptable solution to the remaining issues at the earliest.
