Jakarta, CNNIIndonesia —
former ambassador Pakistan to united states of america Maleeha Loddhi criticized India’s Hinduization of Kashmir during the Black Day commemoration event on Thursday (27/10).
Loddhi then accused the ruling party, Bharatiya Janata (BJP) of forcing Muslim students to sing Hindu hymns and follow their rituals.
“Muttahida Majlis-i-Ulema, which comprises 30 Kashmiri Muslim organizations, condemns this move, saying it is designed to hasten the so-called integration of the younger generation with the Hindutva idea of India,” said Loddhi in an official statement. sent by the Embassy of Pakistan in Jakarta to CNNIndonesia.comWednesday (25/10).
He then said: “This is said to be part of an effort to erode Muslim identity in the region. [Jammu dan Kashmir].”
In addition to this coercion, Indian authorities have also previously charged a number of Muslim scholars in Kashmir with charges of acts of public security.
Pakistan later condemned the decision. They say that India is depriving the Kashmiri people of their religious and cultural identity.
Loddhi also disclosed that the BJP has also taken over the Waqf Council of Jammu and Kashmir, including Eidgah Srinagar, a historic venue for congregational prayers.
A series of moves aimed at weakening Kashmiris and changing Kashmir’s Muslim identity followed India’s illegal annexation of the two territories in August 2019.
“This is a flagrant violation of the UN Security Council resolution which prohibits the parties from making material changes to the situation,” Loddhi said.
Pakistan, he said, has repeated its calls on the global community to hold India to account for the crimes committed in Kashmir and Jammu.
According to him, India must end its brutal oppression and abide by its human rights obligations, respecting the rights commitments of Kashmir and Jammu.
Pakistan claims Jammu and Kashmir as part of its territory on religious grounds.
The Black Day commemoration marks the protest of the people of Kashmir during the forced occupation by the Indian army.
At this time, Indian troops landed in Jammu and Kashmir. Their numbers continued to grow after New Delhi suspended the special status of the legally occupied territory of Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
