The scope of Indo-Pacific cooperation is wider than the NSP

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Indonesia regards South Korea (South Korea) as one of the important countries in the Indo-Pacific region. This country also welcomes the new Ginseng Country strategy concerning the Indo-Pacific.


Riza Hera Wardhana, Counselor for Political Relations and International Organizations for the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Seoul, explained the scope of the cooperation Indo-Pacific very broad compared to the New Southern Policy (NSP). Not only for ASEAN, India, Australia and New Zealand, but also for the United States and Europe.


“This policy is eagerly awaited by the international community,” Riza said at the Indonesian Next Generation Journalists’ Network workshop on Korea recently organized by the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI) and the Foundation. Korean (KF). He added that South Korea’s new Indo-Pacific policy opens up opportunities for greater cooperation with ASEAN and Indonesia.


He said one thing South Korea, ASEAN and Indonesia should do is strengthen soft diplomacy in the region. This can be done through social and cultural approaches that have been well established for peace.


He continued, President Joko Widodo repeatedly underlined his free and active attitude in the eyes of the world. One of them uses the dialogue approach.


“Indonesia’s free and active policy can be applied to contribute to peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. The G20 agenda has proven that Indonesia is impartial and prioritizes dialogue to find solutions to a problem,” he explained.


Remember that the government Carousel put in place a new strategy with three specific visions for the Indo-Pacific region, namely to prioritize peace, prosperity and freedom. These new strategies are implemented in nine priorities for Indo-Pacific development cooperation with other countries, including Indonesia.


Diplomat at the South Korean Embassy in Jakarta Choi Shin-hye added that some of these strategies are concrete measures by the South Korean government for countries in the Indo-Pacific region. South Korea seeks to play a more active role in promoting freedom, peace and prosperity.


He also explained in more detail the points of freedom, peace and prosperity taken up by South Korea in the Indo-Pacific cooperation. First, with regard to freedom, South Korea seeks to promote core values ​​such as freedom, democracy, the rule of law and human rights, thereby strengthening a rules-based international order.


Secondly, with regard to peace, South Korea will play an active role in preventing disputes and armed conflicts and promote the peaceful settlement of disputes through dialogue. “Including efforts to achieve the denuclearization of North Korea, strengthen partnerships in the areas of non-proliferation and counterterrorism, and promote maritime security, cyberspace and health,” a- he declared.


Third, Ginseng Country will support the region’s prosperity through an open and fair economic order. It was also emphasized that South Korea would build supply chain resilience, expand networks for economic security, and foster a cooperative and inclusive economic and technological ecosystem.
