Rarely has there been a rise and fall so close to 2022. We have a year behind us that actually started with faith. The world is just learning to live with the coronavirus, and governments across Europe are in the process of ending restrictions.

There’s talk of new beginnings, growth phases, technological breakthroughs, even a “Golden Twenty” iteration. Then, on February 24, Russian troops marched into Ukraine, and the year of new beginnings turned into a year of historic turning points.

The world was suddenly faced with questions that no one had dared to ask just weeks before. In Handelsblatt, for example, we had to deal overnight with the problem of how to evacuate journalists from the war zone.
