The impact was immediate, for this Indian film is anything but trivial: it depicts the targeted killing and dramatic exodus of tens of thousands of Hindus. from the Kashmir region, at the start of the civil war that raged there in the early 1990s, around 100,000 people fled, terrorized by the rise of Islamist and separatist groups.
