8 key points in 10 months of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Since the initial invasion, it’s been counted Russia invades Ukraine for 10 months from February 2022. Troop Russia attacked major cities across Ukraine including Berdyansk, Chernihiv, Kharkiv, Odessa, Sumy and the capital Kyiv. Here are some important notes from this war since February.

1. March 1

On March 1, 2022, satellite images show a 40-mile convoy of Russian tanks and troops outside the capital Ukraine, Kyiv. Naveen Shekharappa, an Indian medical student studying in Kharkiv, even lost his life due to an attack by a Russian sniper.

2. April 8

Ukraine has blamed Russia for a missile attack on a train station in Kramatorsk that killed at least 52 people trying to flee. Russia denies any responsibility for the incident.

3. April 28

Russia fired two missiles at Kyiv during the visit of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, Ukraine said. The Kremlin accuses Ukraine of invading Russian territory near the border. Two explosions were heard in the city of Belgorod, Russia.

4. May 20

Ukrainian fighters holding out at the Azovstal Steel Plant in Mariupol surrendered to Russian forces after a few days. The Russians said the last Ukrainian troops had surrendered. Indeed, hours earlier, Zelensky said the Ukrainian military had told the fighters they could get out and save their lives.

5. August 21

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, speaking on state television, claimed that his country had deployed Kinzhal (Dagger) hypersonic missiles to Ukraine three times. The Kinzhal missile is part of a new line of hypersonic weapons that President Vladimir Putin alluded to in his 2018 war speech.

6. August 23

Ukraine’s military leader says nearly 9,000 troops have died since Russia invaded Ukraine nearly six months ago. General Valerii Zaluzhnyi on Monday provided the first official tally of Ukraine’s military casualties since the conflict at an event for veterans. Meanwhile, US intelligence estimates that between 70,000 and 80,000 Russian troops have been killed or injured since the fighting began.

7. October 15

The Ministry of Defense of Belarus has revealed that it will send 70,000 Russian troops from this country. The arrival of Russian troops comes after Moscow and Minsk agreed earlier this week to create a joint force in the face of increased NATO military activity on the Belarusian front.

8. November 8

The US State Department has confirmed that there were US mercenaries who died during the war in Ukraine. According to the Ukrainian International Defense Legion, the US citizen is identified as Timothy Griffin. He died fighting in eastern Ukraine.

9. December 23

Russian President Vladimir Cheese fries said he wanted to end the war in Ukraine. Putin’s remarks came a day after US President Joe Biden received Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House. On that occasion, the United States pledged continued and unwavering support for Ukraine.
