Often boring, sometimes surprising, with Christmas movies, there is always a hit or miss. There's nothing better to unwind after a hard day at work. They raise your spirits and allow you to forget about the gloomy weather. Netflix makes it a specialty leading up to the holidays. Here's our selection of new products.
Hello Christmas spirit
Throw: At the end of each year, Jackie sends news of her wonderful life which her college friend, Charlotte, receives like a poisoned chalice. Just days before Christmas, fate brings Charlotte, her husband Rob and their family to the snowy doorstep of Jackie and her partner Valentino's home. Charlotte then takes the opportunity to show that her friend's life is not as perfect as she imagined.
Our opinion : For this comedy, Netflix offers a “vintage” cast consisting of four stars from the 1990s-2000s. Friendship and jealousy are the main themes that show the production of the genre. If the ending is predictable, we are happy to follow the fate of the two couples. OK and agree.
Christmas as if nothing had happened
Throw: After surprising her Norwegian family by arriving with her new boyfriend from India, Thea Evjen must help him adjust to the Christmas holidays. All the ancestral traditions of freezing Norwegian winters will be shaken by the bright colors of Bollywood.
Our opinion : A clash of cultures is at the heart of this Norwegian romantic comedy. The story is fun but doesn't bring anything new to the genre. The chemistry between these two actors leaves something to be desired. Christmas movies are also a collection of clichés.
Christmas is served
Throw: When a struggling caterer agrees to cater a Christmas party for a large local foundation, he suddenly falls in love with the client's niece.
Our opinion : A truly silly TV movie but the lively atmosphere and actors raise the bar. A touching film that soothes the heart.
Christmas at the drive-in
Throw: A lawyer tries to save his town's iconic movie theater, but things get complicated when he reconnects with an old love who is none other than the movie theater's owner and seller.
Our opinion : A Christmas movie that goes off the rails, whose cast is anything but charismatic. The screenplay gets lost in some subplots but ultimately finds a good moral at the end.
A Bad Man's Christmas
Throw: In honor of their traditional Christmas heist, Mr. Wolf and his band of outlaw animals must restore the town's holiday spirit, and fast!
Our opinion : This adventurous animated short film will delight children this Christmas. It is a prequel to the Dreamworks feature film which was a huge success in theaters.
