First round India Open 2023 Wednesday (18/1) featured a number of fierce duels involving representatives from Indonesia.
Indonesia passed three representatives for the Indian Open Round of 16 based on the results of Tuesday’s first round matches (17/1). Jonatan Christie, Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo/Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto/Lisa Ayu Kusumawati are representatives who have qualified for the Round of 16.
A number of other representatives could follow in the duel that took place today. But some of them have to go through a fierce duel. The following is a fierce duel involving Indonesian players in the first round of the Indian Open on Wednesday (18/1):
1. Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan vs. Liang Wei Keng/Wang Chang
Ahsan/Hendra, who are the fourth seeds, faced a tough match against Liang Wei Keng/Wang Chang in the first round of the Indian Open. Liang/Wang are young Chinese doubles who started to soar last year.
At the Malaysian Open last week, Liang/Wang also reached the final round and finished second beating a number of top seeds from Kevin/Marcus, Kim Astrup/Anders Skaarup Rasmussen, to Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty.
The balance sheet of the meeting between Ahsan/Hendra and Liang/Wang is a draw 1-1.

2. Shesar Hiren Rhustavito vs. Lee Zii Jia
Vito also faced a tough match in the first round, having to face Malaysian second seed Lee Zii Jia in the first round of the Indian Open.
Even if he lost in terms of ranking, Vito has the capital to be confident against Lee Zii Jia. Because Vito won 5-4 in the duel against Lee Zii Jia and managed to win in the last two meetings.
