NEW DELHI: The center raised around Rs 3.49 crore as various expenditures in 2021-22, compared with around Rs 2.97 crore in 2020-21, and spent the amounts across states, shared the government with Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. It says the levies will be collected under 10 main areas, including roads and infrastructure, health and education, and agricultural infrastructure and development.
Union Minister of Finance Nirmala Sitharaman said cessions were issued by states and the Union government had nothing to do with it.
When asked what the center was doing with the collected royalty and requested that it be shared with states, she replied, “More than what was collected as a royalty has been spent, and that is being spent by the states.” , she said. citing examples of educational cess.
The FM said collection of road and infrastructure charges has fallen as a result of excise duty cuts on petrol and diesel, but the government is committed to closing the gap. “So anything and more than anything that’s collected as a levy is spent by the states for the states, and if there are gaps, the center fills them in,” she said. Sources said that during the current financial year Rs 3.77 lakh crore had been collected but Rs 3.93 lakh crore had been spent.
