India has a population of over a billion, but it failed to win a gold medal. Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
India is sending a large number of teams to the 2024 Paris Olympics. It is sending 110 athletes to compete in 16 sports. However, it was ultimately disappointed as no gold was brought home.
India returned from Paris 2024 with a record 1 silver and 5 bronze. The silver was donated by Neeraj Chopra and the bronze went to Manu Bhaker, Manu Bhaker and Sarajbot Singh, Swapnil Kusale, the men's hockey team and Aman Sehrawat.
This record is a setback from the previous edition of the Olympics. At the Tokyo Olympics 2020 in 2021, India returned with 1 gold, 2 silver and 4 bronze medals.
At that time, Neeraj Chopra won the gold medal in the men's javelin throw. Meanwhile, in this edition, Neeraj Chopra had to acknowledge the superiority of Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan.
Neeraj Chopra recorded a throw of 89.45 metres. He could not match Arshad Nadeem who recorded 92.97 metres.
Shooting sports brought the most medals to Paris 2024 with a record three bronze medals. The men's hockey and wrestling teams also consistently delivered medals, but were unable to improve their results compared to four years ago.
One of the biggest disappointments was in badminton. They had high hopes on Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty as well as PV Sindhu who won medals in the last two editions. However, neither of them could provide a medal for India in this edition.
In total, India has 10 gold, 10 silver and 21 bronze medals. They have medals since the 1900 Paris Olympics.
The men's hockey team is one of India's pillars in winning medals. They have bagged a total of eight gold medals, but their last success was in 1980.
