TF1 launches this Friday night at 9:10pm Welcome Back, a new program brought to you by Camille Combal.
Adapted from the Dutch concept of “retrotainment” – nostalgic listening entertainment – this novelty in France makes it possible to revisit a particular year through games and quizzes.
“We will cover the funny things and anecdotes that bring our daily lives to life and other more serious things related to current events, such as political events or historical matches. The show is adapted from the delightful Dutch format, ‘A Year to Remember’, which has been running successfully for four years. We’ve been wanting to adapt it for a long time,” says Télé-Loisirs Julien Degroote, director of monitoring and development of the TF1 Group.
Time travel
The first episode is devoted to 1993. The decorations have been designed down to the smallest detail to bring viewers into that era. To complete this express time trip, Camille Combal and the guests were also given a fashionable makeover. “All of this contributes to the fun aspect of the show which gives us a bit of a signal: ‘Ok tonight, we’re going to have some fun’. More than ever, people need lightness and the ability to escape as a family,” added Julien Degroote.
On the “we’re wearing a Vincent Lagaf tie” look, it’s complemented by a la Nagui little shirt, a la José little vest in ‘Hélène et les Garçons’, all with that sublime mustache from my dad, detailing the cute side of hosts Puremedias. We couldn’t be more in 1993! All that’s missing is the Renault Nevada and we’re fine!” The presenter said he “picked a year marked by a lot of novelty in French society, and particularly in the field of pop culture, be it new TV shows, new music or new films. Therefore, 1993 and 2000 (for the second edition of Welcome Back, editor’s note) seemed to us like good playgrounds”, he said, still for Puremédias.
In 1993, we wore our hair like mule cuts, we used Minitels to talk to each other and we danced to (‘)
