The country’s largest airline, IndiGo, and British carrier Virgin Atlantic announced a codeshare agreement on Wednesday.
The agreement will allow Virgin Atlantic to sell seats to passengers transferring onto IndiGo flights.
The first codeshare destinations in India include Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Goa, Delhi and Mumbai.
The additional destinations include Kochi, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Pune, Coimbatore, Nagpur, Vadodara, Indore and Visakhapatnam, a press release said.
As part of the codeshare partnership, customers booking a Virgin Atlantic ticket will be able to fly on the airline’s flights from London Heathrow to Delhi and Mumbai, with connections to and from 7 other cities in India.
Later this year, the agreement will be expanded to cover a total of 16 destinations across India, as well as connections to Virgin Atlantic’s extensive US network, which operates through London Heathrow, the press release said.
Codesharing allows an airline to book its passengers with its partner airlines and enable seamless travel to destinations where it does not have a presence.
