Vietnam helps elevate ASEAN-India relations to a new level

The ASEAN-India Special Foreign Ministers Meeting (SAIFMM) will take place from 16-17 June in New Delhi. Vietnam’s Ambassador to India, Pham Sanh Châu, gave an interview to the Vietnam News Agency to discuss the relationship between the Association, Vietnam and the country.

As part of activities celebrating 30e Commemorating the establishment of the ASEAN-India dialogue relationship, the ASEAN-India Special Foreign Ministers Meeting (SAIFMM) will review the situation of cooperation and demonstrate a common desire to strengthen their relations, Ambassador Pham Sanh said.

According to him, ASEAN is establishing dialogue relations with several countries, including India, which is a very important partner. The two sides have much in common on regional and international issues. They attach great importance to the central role of ASEAN, respect the principle of the rule of law, and want to build a region that is peaceful, stable and thriving.

In addition, cooperative relations in the fields of economy, science and technology, education, transportation, exchange between nations have experienced remarkable developments.

As an active member, Vietnam is in a relatively favorable position to connect India with ASEAN member countries. As the coordinator of ASEAN-India relations, Vietnam hosted a special summit between the leaders of India and the 10 ASEAN countries. With its foreign policy of independence, independence and multilateralization and diversification, Vietnam has played an active role in deepening ASEAN-India relations.

Apart from that, 2022 is an extraordinary year in Vietnam-India relations. Bilateral defense cooperation continues to be strengthened. Moreover, both sides hope to increase their trade to 15 billion USD soon. Regarding people-to-people exchanges and tourism, a new direct airline will be opened, showing the huge commercial and tourist potential between the two countries.
