Temperatures of almost 50 degrees
Heatwave in India: Birds are falling from the sky
Due to the high temperatures in India, the birds become dehydrated and then fall from the sky. Animal rescuers are collecting dozens of birds every day and caring for them at an animal hospital in Gujarat state in western India, Reuters news agency reports. Birds are suffering from lack of water as many water sources have dried up.

“This year is one of the worst. The number of birds in need of rescue has increased by 10%,” bird rescuer Manoj Bhavsar told the news agency. The birds were given multivitamin tablets and water by syringes in their beaks.
High temperatures are also dangerous for people: health authorities in Gujarat have ordered hospitals to set up special wards for heatstroke. Temperatures well above 40 degrees have been measured in India for several weeks. A record temperature of 49 degrees was reached in New Delhi on May 15.
