Sudirman Cup failure, Indian representatives seek redemption at Malaysia Masters

Badminton News: India’s stars including PV Sindhu and HS Prannoy must quickly overcome the disappointment of the Sudirman Cup, when they start their competition in the Malaysia Masters Super 500 tournament from Tuesday (5/23).

None of the top singles players could win their respective matches in the decisive clashes against Chinese Taipei and Malaysia as India were knocked out of the World Mixed Tag Team Championship in China last week.

The doubles pair were also unable to advance as India were beaten 4-1, 5-0 by Taipei and Malaysia.

Back in the World Tour events, Indian commuters will be looking to redeem themselves, especially as the Paris Olympic qualifiers are just getting started.

Sixth seed Sindhu, who lost to Tokyo silver medalists Tai Tzu Ying and Goh Jin Wei last week, will meet Denmark’s Line Christophersen.

Prannoy will have a chance to settle the score when he faces sixth seed Chou Tien Chen again after losing to the Taipei man in Suzhou.

Kidambi Srikanth also lost his match to Malaysia and was hoping to regain some confidence with a win over Japan’s Kanta Tsuneyama in the first round.

Lakshya Sen, who was on the reverse Sudirman Cup roster and couldn’t play any matches, will open against former world champion Loh Kean Yew of Singapore.

Fifth seeds Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty fought hard before losing both matches in China. They will face Ben Lane and Sean Vendy in their first round.

In the qualifying round, Malvika Bansod, Aakarshi Kashyap, B Sai Praneeth, Mithun Manjunath and Priyanshu Rajawat will also compete.
