Badminton News: While the 2023 Sudirman Cup promises jaw-dropping action from the world’s best mixed teams, Group C promises to be a fierce battle for top spot.
After taking a look inside Group A and Group B, we now move on to what many badminton fans have considered the “group of death” unsurprisingly, because Group C only includes none other than Malaysia, Taiwan and India, as well as Australia.
The TotalEnergies BWF Piaal Sudirman Championship 2023 starts this Sunday and will run for the whole week until Sunday May 21.
Group C of the Sudirman Cup 2023 will already have its first match on the opening day, with Taiwan taking on India and Malaysia taking on Australia, both in the morning.
Despite being called the toughest group, none of the teams in Group C have ever reached the Sudirman Cup final.
India have found a balance and recently performed well in the team events. The country had its historic moment in the 2022 Thomas Cup by winning the title. Recently, India reached the semi-finals for the first time at the Asian Mixed Team Championships 2023.
Malaysia will find its strength in men’s singles and doubles. After winning back-to-back bronze medals at the All England and Swiss Open, Lee Zii Jia will be ready to fight for points for his team, while Ng Tze Yong will also be a strong player in men’s singles.
Ong Yew Sin/Teo Ee Yi and Goh Soon Huat/Shevon Jemie Lai will be looking to repeat their recent strong showings at World Tour tournaments.
Despite being the dark horse of Group C, Australia will display their best roster. They will rely on some of their best strengths, including Gronya Somerville who can help the Australian team in women’s doubles and mixed doubles.
Taiwan will be ready for the biggest mixed event in the world with its best stars. Key players Chou Tien Chen and Tai Tzu Ying will be the key characters in the singles matches while Lee Yang/Wang Chi-Lin and Lu Ching Yao/Yang Po Han are their best players in men’s doubles while on the other hand, the other members of Group C’s opponents might have their eye on their not-so-strong candidates in women’s doubles and mixed doubles.
