Seat shift in Sunak’s cabinet: Cameron becomes new foreign secretary after Braverman’s sacking – politics

Former British Prime Minister David Cameron has been appointed as his country’s new foreign minister. This was announced by the government headquarters at 10 Downing Street in London on Monday.

Cameron’s personnel were the most spectacular in a major reshuffle of the British cabinet. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak previously sacked Home Secretary Suella Braverman and was replaced by James Cleverly, who previously served as Foreign Secretary. Sunak is fighting for his political survival in the face of poor election results and a general election scheduled for next year. A cabinet reshuffle has been expected for a long time.

Cameron was British Prime Minister from May 2010 to July 2016. The 57-year-old conservative politician resigned after Britain voted to leave the European Union in a referendum he called. At that time, Cameron campaigned for his country to remain in the EU.

Cameron wrote on “While I have not been on the political frontline for the last seven years, I hope my experience will help me support the Prime Minister in addressing these important challenges,” Cameron said.

Resignation of the Minister of Education

Meanwhile, Education Minister Nick Gibb has resigned from his post. He wanted to take a diplomatic role after the general election and asked Sunak to remove him from office and he agreed, he wrote on Platform X. He also publicized his resignation.

Home Secretary Braverman has come under heavy criticism in recent days following his comments regarding pro-Palestinian demonstrations in the UK. He described the demonstrators as a “mob” and spoke of a “hate march”. He also accused the police he led of treating left-wing demonstrators more friendly than right-wing demonstrators.

This is not the first time Braverman has left his post. He had been Home Secretary under Sunak’s predecessor Liz Truss and left the post at her insistence: he was said to have forwarded secret government documents via his private email address.
