Badminton News: Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Indian men’s doubles world number 7 Chirag Shetty advanced to the second round of the 2022 Asian Badminton Championships with back-to-back wins in Manila on Tuesday.
The Indian pair’s third seed barely broke a sweat to record easy 21-13, 21-9 wins over Thai pair Apiluk Gaterahong and Natchanon Tulamok in just 27 minutes.
Satwik and Chirag will next face Akiro Koga and Taichi Saito of Japan in the second round of the 2022 Asian Badminton Championships.
Meanwhile, the Ishaan Bhatnagar/Tanisha Crasto pair also qualified for the second round of the mixed doubles sector. The Indian pair got the better of Hong Kong’s Law Cheuk Him and Yeung Nga Ting 21-15 and 21-17 in half an hour.
However, that was the end of the road for the men’s doubles Krishna Prasad Garaga / Vishnuvardhan Goud Panjala.
Prasad and Pranjala fought hard but ended up conceding the first half match to Kang Minhyuk and Kim Wonho of South Korea 10-21, 21-19 and 16-21.
They will face the winner of the match between South Korean pair Kim Wonho and Jeong Na Eun and seventh seeds Tan Kian Meng and Lai Pei Jing from Malaysia.
In the men’s doubles sector, MR Arjun/Dhruv Kapila pair dropped to fourth seed Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto of Indonesia with 16-21 and 24-22, while mixed doubles pair Venkat Gaurav Prasad / Juhi Dewangan had to admit the superiority of the pair Praveen Jordan / Melati.Daeva Oktavianiti of Indonesia with consecutive matches 9-2 and 13-21 in 19 minutes.
