Badminton News: India’s badminton world number one Pramod Bhagat and world number three Sukant Kadam will lead India’s badminton contingent in the Para Brazil International Badminton Tournament which kicks off in Sao Paulo on Tuesday (19/4).
The BWF Para Badminton International Level 2 event takes place after a two-year hiatus.
“The year 2022 is off to a good start with the Spanish tournament and I want to keep the momentum going and keep winning. My training is going well and I plan to perform everything I have trained,” Bhagat said in a statement.
Pramod Bhagat, who won Paralympic gold in Tokyo, picked up two silvers and a bronze at the Spanish para-badminton international last month.
Sukant Kadam, who finished the competition with a bronze medal in Spain, said he saw the event as preparation for upcoming big events such as the Commonwealth Games, Asian Games and World Championships.
“I trained hard and the results are visible to everyone. The Brazil tournament is part of my preparations for the Asian Games and the World Championships scheduled for later this year,” he said.
“Brazil will see the best talent coming and I want to do well in the tournament.”
Besides Bhagat and Kadam, Manoj Sarkar, Tarun Dhillon, Parul Parmar, Nitesh Rana, Manasi Joshi, Palak Kohli and Nithya Sri are other top Indian badminton players, who will take part in the tournament which will run from April 19-24.
