Potential of Loh Kean Yew vs. Lee ZIi Jia in Indonesia Open 2022 quarter-finals

Ligaosport.com –

Badminton News: Singapore World Champion Loh Kean Yew could be a tough test for Lee Zii Jia in his quest to win the 2022 Indonesia Open.

Drawn in the same group, Lee Zii Jia and Loh Kean Yew could meet in the quarter-finals if they win their first two matches.

Loh Kean Yew hadn’t been in his best form since he was crowned world champion last year, but he showed his best form by reaching the semi-finals of the Indonesia Masters which just ended the week last.

The world number 10 came close to qualifying for the final after losing three thrilling matches to Taiwan’s world number 4, Chou Tien-chen.

World number 5 Zii Jia, meanwhile, will bounce back from seeing his unbeaten streak since the Asian Championships ended in April when he lost again in a close battle against host world number six Anthony Ginting in Indonesia Masters quarter-final. .

The Malaysian must win his first two matches against Thailand’s Sitthikom Thammasin and the winner of the all-India match between Sameer Verma and P. Kashyap. However, Kean Yew faces a tougher route to the quarter-finals when he opens his campaign against Korea’s Heo Kwang-hee and a victory could pit him against world number 3, Denmark’s Anders Antonsen.

His chances of beating both players, however, look bright after his recent improvement in form.

So, everything points to a tantalizing quarter-final clash between Zii Jia and her Singaporean rivals.

Zii Jia held a narrow 3-2 lead in their one-on-one clash and prevailed when they last met at the Asian Tag Team Championships in February.

But Kean Yew beat the Malaysian in both matches last year at Hylo and at the 2021 French Open.

Meanwhile, the other players to watch in the top half of the table are new Danish Masters champions from Indonesia and top seeds Viktor Axelsen and Anthony.

In the final round of the draw, danger could come from Japan’s Kento Momota, India’s Thomas Cup winners Lakshya Sen and Kidambi Srikanth, Thailand’s SEA Games Hanoi winner Kunlavut Vitidsarn, Indonesia Masters runner-up from Taiwan, Chou Tien-chen and star host Jonatan Christie.
