This exhibition traces the arrival of cinema in India, its inspiration in the Indian tradition of fairy tales, performance, mythology and storytelling, its rise as a unifying tool after British colonialism, to the current Bollywood “superstar” system.

Under the microphone Louise Morin, co-curator of the exhibition and head of the Asian heritage unit at the musée du quai Branly – Jacques Chirac, Julien Rousseau, talks to us about the multimedia dimension of Indian cinema, which integrates dance, music, theater…

Part of’A Season in India, the museum offers a season of plays and concerts to explore at the Claude Lévi-Strauss theater. Director of the play Impure Chandalawhich can be found on November 24-25 and 26, Koumarane Valavane, tells us more about this show that borrows from Indian culture and Romeo and Juliet.

Just like in cinema, the characters fall in love, but above all, we combine art, therefore the show in turn combines cinema, dance, singing…
