Psyllium husks: first aid for diarrhea
Psyllium husks are also a popular home remedy for diarrhea. The mucilage, contained in large quantities in the husk of psyllium seeds, binds excess fluid in the intestines caused by diarrhea, which can cause thickening of the stools. Mucilage can also bind toxins from bacteria in the gut if the diarrhea is caused by bacterial inflammatory bowel disease. Even colon cleansing is possible with psyllium seeds.
Prepare psyllium husks correctly
But how to prepare psyllium husks correctly? Very easy! It is best to take one to two teaspoons per day. You should spread the total amount slightly throughout the day. You can incorporate the pure or ground seeds into your porridge, but this superfood also does a good job in smoothies or yogurts. When consuming psyllium husks, make sure you drink enough liquid for them to develop their full effect. You should also not consume too many small seeds, as an overdose can quickly lead to abdominal pain and diarrhea.
Important: Anyone suffering from acute inflammation of the gastrointestinal region or stricture of the esophagus, stomach or intestines should not consume psyllium seeds. The same goes for difficulty swallowing.
