Live News Updates: Veteran politician Ghulam Nabi Azad said on Friday he would soon set up a new party and its first unit would be set up in Jammu and Kashmir. “I’m in no rush to start a national party at this time, but with elections likely to be held in Jammu and Kashmir, I’ve decided to start an entity there soon,” said Azad, who resigned from Congress earlier on the day, said PTI.

A parliamentary committee on Friday questioned senior Twitter officials about a whistleblower’s revelations about its India operations, dressing them up as their answers on data security and privacy issues were “unsatisfactory,” sources said. Top Twitter executives, including Senior Director (Public Policy) Samiran Gupta, Director (Public Policy) Shagufta Kamran, were removed before the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information and Technology, chaired by senior Congress President Shashi Tharoor.

Highlighting the debate over “giveaways,” Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Friday promises made to the people by political parties during elections should be honored through budget rules duly passed in state legislatures. “If a promise was made to the people in the election because it is about quid pro quo, then as a responsible party, present yourself as a responsible party after you take power in the budget,” the finance minister said at a media event in Mumbai.
