MACRON AND MODI CALLS FOR IMMEDIATE cessation of fighting in UKRAINE
Emmanuel Macron and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on a tour of Europe this Wednesday, called in a joint statement after a meeting and a working dinner at the Elysée, for an “immediate cessation of hostilities” in Ukraine.
“France and India have expressed their deep concern about the humanitarian crisis and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine,” the two leaders stressed. “Both countries firmly condemn the killing of civilians in Ukraine, and call for an immediate cessation of hostilities for the parties to jointly promote dialogue and diplomacy and to immediately end the suffering of the population,” they added.
Only France, on the other hand, strongly condemns the illegal and unjustified aggression of Russian troops against Ukraine. India, in seeking a delicate balance between the West and Russia, which provides most of its needs in weapons and energy, has refrained from publicly condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine but has called for dialogue to end it.
