Badminton News: In an impressive display of skill and determination, Indian badminton player Lakshya Sen dominated his quarter-final match against Malaysia’s Leong Jun Hao at the Thailand Open Super 500 tournament in Bangkok.
The 21-year-old badminton player from Almora sealed the victory with a powerful jumping smash, securing a 21-19, 21-11 straight win.
The victory marked Lakshya Sen’s first entry into the semi-finals this season, although he had narrowly missed the Indonesian Masters before, where he failed in the quarter-finals.
Currently ranked 23rd in the world, Lakshya was demoted from a career ranking of six due to poor performances earlier this season.
In the semi-finals, Lakshya will face second seed Thailand Kunlavut Vitidsarn on Saturday. This upcoming match provides a significant opportunity for Lakshya to prove his mettle and regain his momentum on the badminton circuit.
Meanwhile, Kiran George’s impressive performance in the tournament ended with a loss to Toma Junior Popov of France in another men’s singles match. George fought bravely but ultimately lost 16-21, 17-21.
In the quarter-final match between Lakshya and Leong, both players showed tenacity and skill, pushing each other to their limits early on. Despite trailing 10-11 at halftime, Lakshya fought back and leveled the score at 17-17, eventually winning the opener as Leong began to show signs of fatigue.
In game two, Lakshya kept the rally in control with crisp and clean returns. He quickly took an 11-8 lead and then pulled away at 13-11. Showing his dominance, Lakshya quickly racked up his next 11 points, securing a decisive win.
Lakshya Sen’s quarter-final performance highlighted his potential and determination to reclaim his place among badminton’s top players. With his eyes on the semi-finals, Lakshya aims to continue his winning streak and make a strong comeback on the international stage.
