External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said he met the families of the eight Indians detained in Qatar and said the Indian government would continue to make all efforts to ensure their release.
The eight former Indian Navy personnel arrested in Qatar were sentenced to death by Qatar’s Court of First Instance on October 26.
India called the verdict “deeply” shocking and said the Indian government had pledged to explore all legal options in the case. In a post on social media platform
Jaishankar said: “I met the families of the eight Indians detained in Qatar this morning. He stressed that the government attaches the utmost importance to the case. Share fully the concerns and pain of the families.”
He added: “Underlining that the government will continue to make every effort to ensure their release. She will coordinate closely with the families on this.”
The Indian nationals, working with private company Al Dahra, were arrested in August last year in a suspected espionage case. The allegations made against the Indian nationals have not been made public by either the Indian government or the Qatari authorities, it is said PTI.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MEA) responded to the Qatari court’s ruling on October 26, saying it attached “high importance” to the case and was exploring all legal options.
According to reports, the charges brought against the eight Indian navy veterans on March 25 were tried under Qatari law PTI.
