Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar presented India’s positions on global and regional developments, world economic recovery and the work of multilateral institutions, including BRICS, during his official visit to South Africa and Namibia. Jaishankar also attended the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and the Meeting of the Friends of the BRICS Foreign Ministers.
According to the statement released by the Foreign Ministry, the Indian Foreign Minister visited South Africa and Namibia from June 1 to 6, where he visited Cape Town to attend the BRICS Foreign Ministers Meeting and the Friends of BRICS Foreign Ministers Meeting on June 1 and 2 respectively.

Following his visit to Cape Town, Jaishankar visited Namibia on 4-6 June and met with Namibian President Hage Geingob. During his official visit, the EAM also co-chaired the opening session of the Joint Commission meeting with Namibian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah. Notably, this was the first time an Indian Foreign Minister had visited Namibia.

In addition, Jaishankar EAM also reached out to the Namibia-based Indian diaspora and met with the Indian diamond business community. He also officially opened the India-Namibia Center of Excellence in Information Technology (INCEIT) in Windhoek in the presence of his Namibian counterpart and Minister of Higher Education, Itah Kandjii-Murangi.

According to an official statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jaishankar’s visit to South Africa and Namibia provided an opportunity for high-level talks. The visit also enriched India’s friendly ties with these countries.
