Badminton News: Team India recorded a 5-0 landslide victory over Hong Kong and advanced to the quarter-finals of the Asian Badminton Junior Championships before losing to Malaysia on the second day of the tournament at Among Rogo Sports Hall Yogyakarta, Indonesia on Saturday.
Badminton India got off to a perfect start against Hong Kong when mixed doubles duo Samarveer and Radhika showed their class by beating Deng and Liu 21-10, 21-14.
Continuing their singles momentum, Ayush Shetty and Tara Shah reigned supreme against their respective opponents with contrasting victories. As Ayush comfortably beat Lam Ka To 21-14, 21-9, Tara picked up a 21-23, 21-16, 21-13 win over Liang Ka Wing.
The men’s doubles team of Nicholas and Tushar showed what they were capable of beating their opponents Chung and Yung 21-16, 21-17 followed by Srinidhi and Radhika who ended their winning streak beating Liang and Liu 21-12, 21-19. .
Later in the day, the team suffered a 0-5 loss to Malaysia. In singles bout, Lakshay Sharma lost to Eogene Ewe 14-21, 15-21 while Rakshitha suffered a 13-21, 21-5, 15-21 loss to Ong Xin Yee.
Nicholas and Tushar were beaten 12-21, 19-21 by Goonting and Tai in men’s doubles while Rakshitha and Shriyanshi lost 21-14, 14-21, 12-21 to Ong and Ting. The Samarveer/Radhika mixed doubles pair were beaten 21-18, 15-21, 10-21 by Low and Chong.
The draw for the quarter-finals of the 2023 Asian Junior Team Championships will take place on Sunday.
