To New Delhi, the birds fell silent and time suddenly seemed motionless. As the heat reaches its peak in the late afternoon, life unfolds in slow motion in India’s furnace-turned capital. Passersby sought shelter, merchants fell asleep, and naps were made en masse under the trees in the park. Increased tenfold with the temperature hitting 46°C, thirst doesn’t wait and you have to put in your effort. Only the car horn is still stubborn, making impatient to be hit by a heat wave. And everything gets hot, from sun-exposed surfaces to tap water. Even public landfills, giant piles of trash that ignite and spread their toxic fumes into the air, are already laden with dust and particulate matter…
