India and Israel seek stronger water, agriculture and defense ties

NEW DELHI: Foreign Minister S Jaishankar and his visiting Israeli counterpart Eli Cohen reviewed the strategic partnership between the two countries, with a focus on improving cooperation in the areas of defence, security, water and agriculture. Cohen, who also called PM Narendra Modi cut short his three-day visit home later in the day due to the deteriorating security situation IsraelBombing of the Gaza Strip, killing three Palestinian militants.
“The key pillars of our strategic partnership – agriculture, water, defense and security – drive our relationship forward. Today, new agreements on water and agriculture underscore the potential to do more. Discussed collaborating on high tech, digital & innovation as well as connectivity, mobility tourism, finance and health,” Jaishankar tweeted after meeting Cohen.
“Note the progress on I2U2 and the collaboration in multilateral fora. Sharing perspectives on our respective regions, Ukraine and the Indo-Pacific. An agreement on mobility initialed,” he added.
According to an Israeli ad, both countries noted progress on I2U2 and held talks on cooperation on security, economy, technology, innovation, connectivity and health.
Cohen also opened the CII India-Israel Business Forum. Three memoranda of understanding were signed during the event, ushering in a new era of collaboration and partnership between the business communities of both nations.
Both countries also signed a memorandum of understanding to set up two water technology centers in India.
