An Indian agricultural inspector forced authorities to drain a large reservoir of water meant for agriculture only to find his phone fell in an artificial lake while taking a selfie from the top of the dam.
According to various Indian media, Rajesh Vishwas was visiting the Kherkatta Paralkot reservoir in Chhattisgarh state last Sunday on holiday when he dropped his mobile phone, Samsung S23, in a water reserve about 5 meters deep.
Armed with his local authority, Mr Vishwas spoke to the irrigation department and, he said, got approval to be able to drain the lake.
For three days, a pump worked tirelessly, sucking in more than 41 million liters of water that could have been used to irrigate 600 hectares of arable land, reports India Today.
The precious phone was found, but not surprisingly, after a few days of submersion, it stopped working.
The authorities are now thinking about ways to compensate the population, especially with the approach of summer, which is usually very hot and dry in the region.
