Under the authority of the Prefect of Guyana, Thierry Queffelec, who is taking on the role of government delegate for State Action at Sea (AEM), the State service in Guyana has undertaken new strengthened actions in terms of combating illegal fishing from 10 to 24 June 2022.

This “blow” operation, carried out in the east of the area by the Antilles-Guyane patrol boat “Trust”, led to the diversion, confiscation and destruction of three Brazilian tapouilles. At the same time, another measure mobilizing all maritime resources of the armed forces in French Guiana (FAG) has been carried out across the coast of French Guiana, said a press release from the prefecture of French Guiana.
In addition, a coordinated mission between the coastal unit for maritime affairs, the French Office of Biodiversity (OFB) and the Amana Nature Reserve, allowed the interception of several Surinamese vessels between Mana and Iracoubo.

In total, during this period of operation, more than 32 tons of fish were confiscated and nearly 200 kg of swimming bags. This action, which made it possible to intercept many Brazilian, Surinamese and Guiana vessels from the Suriname border to the Brazilian border, is part of the pursuit of the State’s strategy to combat most decisively against illegal foreign fishing. .

According to the prefectural service, the various seizures made during this period constituted a significant financial loss for illegal fishermen, estimated at more than 275,000 euros.
