For the first time, Indonesia holds the presidency of this international forum which focuses on policy coordination in the fields of economy and development from December 1, 2021 to November 30, 2022.

According to this seasoned diplomat, there are at least four positive points of President Jokowi’s visit to Ukraine and Russia after his participation in the G7 summit in Germany.

“First, it is encouraged to have room for dialogue and find common ground to reach a peace agreement. Second, Ukraine and Russia have agreed to open a route for grain exports from the EU. ‘Ukraine and grain and fertilizers from Russia,’ Mr Sugeng said.

The third point concerns the agreement of the member countries of the Group of 7 (G7) not to impose economic sanctions on Russian cereals and fertilizers, he said.

Constitutional mandate

As stated by the Cabinet Secretariat of the Republic of Indonesia, President Jokowi’s visits to Ukraine and Russia “are a manifestation of Indonesia’s constitutional mandate to contribute to the creation of world peace”.
