Fighting climate change: Blind activism is not helping

WIf Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine does not result in the world immediately falling into nuclear ruin, then climate change eventually led to his downfall. The signs are clear. Glaciers are melting, sea levels are rising, it is getting hotter, millions of people are suffering from droughts and floods. If you don’t believe in climate change and its effects, you can’t be helped.

Even in this situation, so-called climate activists have managed to ensure that there is no public discussion about Germany’s role in fighting climate change – and what each individual can do without having to immediately form an environmental dictatorship. No, the mashed potatoes on the painting, the blockages in the streets and the question of when protest became a crime determine the debate. Instead of content, there is frustration and anger.

No problem Germany

That is detrimental to the fight against climate change, which is undeniably necessary. It just doesn’t help to fall into blind activism, both on the street and in politics. For example, it is not tragic not to think about climate change for a moment in order to get through the energy crisis well enough.

The reasons for that might include climate conference yet will provide solutions in Egypt will not be found on the streets of Berlin or on the political scene of Berlin. Most politicians and citizens have long realized the seriousness of the situation.

However, climate change is not a German problem, but an international one. While Germany can provide an example, real turning points in climate can only work with countries like China, the US, India and Russia – and it doesn’t take much imagination to recognize some of the limitations. Bitter as it is, sound climate policies cannot be forced; it takes patience and time – hopefully not more than we have.
