Dino Patti Djalal calls the RI-South Korea bilateral as a fiancé, how come?

Bisnis.com, SEOUL – Indonesia and South Korea (Carousel) will celebrate the 50th anniversary of bilateral relations in November 2023. Strategic relations or strategic partnerships between RI and South Korea is getting closer.

Founder of the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI) Dino Patti Djalal compares the bilateral relationship between RI-South Korea as a couple dating or even engaged.

Former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs (Menlu) during the time of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) believed that Indonesia currently has many strategic relations with several countries, including Australia, South Korea and China.

“If I see, South Korea is indeed the most cautious, but if they do, they will be serious, it’s one of them, it’s Korea. If India talks big , but it will be checked next week No SO. America can be a promise, but the bureaucracy is complicated,” he told the Indonesian Embassy in Seoul on Tuesday (5/30/2023).

He considered South Korea to have become Strategic partners with Indonesian. According to him, South Korea is very picky about the country that will become its strategic partner.

In fact, he said, Indonesia is the only ASEAN country to have entered into a strategic agreement with South Korea, namely the Indonesia-Korea Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IK-CEPA).

In addition, Dino gave the example of Indonesia and South Korea committing to produce the KF21 Boramae jet. According to him, the manufacture of the KF21 Boramae fighter jet has benefited Indonesia due to technology transfer.

“One of them is KFX [KF21]. We always ask for a transfer of technology, America will not want it because they are miserly,” he explained.

He also thinks that China will not want to transfer technology. The reason, he said, is the technology that makes their products superior.

According to him, the KF21 project reflects joint production for both countries and shows that Indonesia and South Korea are strategic partners.

“We [Indonesia] hang out with lots of people. Everything we say Strategic partners, What is the difference? Another Korea, once tagged, we’re already dating, engaged, so i will treat you differently. For example, KFX is given jor-rod,” Dino said.
