Digital India Empowers Connectivity, Number of Digital Entrepreneurs: PM

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday that 4G connectivity has brought a new dawn to the northeast, boosting the spread of internet facilities in villages by Digital India digital entrepreneurs.

In his monthly show Mann Ki Baat, he also said that Amrit Dhara flowed to every corner of the country during the ongoing Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav this month of the 75th anniversary of Indian Independence.

“We have seen the collective power of the country. Such a big country, so many differences, but when it came to raising the tricolor, everyone seemed to flow in the same spirit,” he said, adding his office had hardly received a letter that had made no mention of the national flag or the freedom movement.

He also addressed a range of issues, including official efforts to tackle malnutrition, saying social awareness is vital to this fight. The month of September is celebrated as Nutrition Month.

The Prime Minister highlighted various innovative methods used in different states to combat malnutrition.

After the UN accepted India’s proposal to mark 2023 as the International Year of Millet, Modi praised millet’s nutritional benefits.

The prime minister said his aim has been to serve dishes made from Indian millet to foreign guests visiting India.

“Our experience is that these dignitaries enjoyed them very much and also try to collect a lot of information about our coarse grain, about millet. Coarse grain has been part of our agriculture, culture and civilization since ancient times,” he noted.

Highlighting increasing digital connectivity in remote parts of the country, he spoke about the village of Jorsing in Arunachal Pradesh, which has been receiving 4G internet services since Independence Day.

He said: “There was a new sunrise in the form of 4G in the remote areas of Arunachal and the North East. Internet connectivity has brought a new dawn. Facilities once only available in big cities have been brought to every village through Digital India. Because of this, new digital entrepreneurs are emerging in the country.”

Modi gave some examples from different parts of the country that are using online facilities to boost their business.

In his comments on malnutrition, he said many creative and diverse efforts are being made to combat it.

“Better use of technology and public participation have also become an important part of ‘Poshan Abhiyan.’ Jal Jeevan’s mission will have a major impact in eradicating malnutrition from India,” he said.

Efforts related to social awareness play an important role in addressing malnutrition challenges, Modi said, urging people to make efforts to eliminate malnutrition.

The PM also urged people to watch the Swaraj series, which highlights contributions by freedom fighters, particularly unsung heroes, to Doordarshan.

“It is a great initiative to introduce the country’s younger generation to the efforts of unsung heroes who participated in the freedom movement,” he said.

Modi also highlighted various individual efforts in different parts of India to celebrate Independence Day on August 15.

The people of Indore made a map of India using a human chain, while the youth of Chandigarh made a giant human tricolor. Both efforts have also been included in the Guinness Records, he said.

These colors of Amrit Mahotsav can be seen not only in India but also in other countries around the world, he said.

“Local singers living in Botswana sang 75 patriotic songs to celebrate 75 years of India’s independence. What is special is that these 75 songs are in languages such as Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Bangla, Assamese, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Sanskrit,” he said.

As his government has called for the construction of 75 “Amrit Sarovar” bodies of water in each district to commemorate India’s 75th anniversary of independence, it has become a mass movement, he said.

He spoke about special efforts made by people in different places to build bodies of water.

“The Amrit Sarovar Abhiyan not only solves many of our problems today, it is also necessary for our generations to come. As part of this campaign, old bodies of water are also being rejuvenated in many places. Amrit sarovar is used to quench the thirst of animals and for agriculture,” he said.

Modi also welcomed people to the upcoming festivals and National Sports Day, which falls on hockey wizard Dhyanchand’s birthday on August 29.
