Badminton News: India’s star pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty advanced to the men’s doubles semi-finals at the Korea Open Super 500 tournament in Yeosu, South Korea on Friday 7/21.
India’s world No. 3 pair, the tournament’s third seed, put in an impressive performance and beat Japan’s Takuro Hoki and Yugo Kobayashi, the fifth-seeded pair, in back-to-back matches.
The match only lasted 40 minutes, with Satwik and Chirag dominating all their opponents. They took the win by 21-14 and 21-17, showing their skills and teamwork on the pitch.
In the semi-finals, the Indian pair will face Chinese second seed Wei Keng Liang and Chang Wang, who are the world No. 2 pair.
On one side, Liang Wei Keng/Wang Chang managed to get rid of South Korean host Kim Young Hyuk/Wang Chan’s men’s double in two very easy consecutive games with the score of 21-11 and 21-10.
With the elimination of other Indian players such as PV Sindhu, HS Prannoy and Kidambi Srikanth, Satwik and Chirag emerged as India’s top contenders in the tournament.
After winning the prestigious Indonesia Open World Tour Super 1000 tournament last month, Satwik and Chirag once again proved their mettle and determination, earning a deserved place in the semi-finals of Korea Open 2023.
His consistent performance and ability to capitalize on crucial moments in matches led them to a convincing victory in the quarter-finals.
