Cardinal Telesphorus Placidus Toppo, Archbishop Emeritus of Ranchi, India, died on Wednesday, October 4. He was born on 15 October 1939 in Chainpur, in Gumla diocese. Ordained a priest on 3 May 1969, he was appointed bishop of Dumka on 8 June 1978 and on the following 7 October he received episcopal ordination. On 8 November 1984, he was appointed coadjutor archbishop of Ranchi and on 7 August 1985, he was succeeded by coadjutor. During the Consistory of 21 October 2003, Jean-Paul ii has created and published it cardinal under the title The Sacred Heart of Jesus dying in Vitinia.
