Berlin.According to the leader of the SPD parliamentary group Rolf Mützenich, the Chinese government may be able to act as a mediator in the war in Ukraine. In principle, countries that are acceptable to both sides will be questioned, such as countries that refrained from criticizing Russia at the UN General Assembly.

“China, for example, allows Russia to do so, but does not advocate aggressive warfare,” Mützenich said. “On the contrary: China’s leadership continues to talk about the country’s territorial integrity. Maybe Ukraine as well as Russia can see China as a possible mediator.”

Mützenich wants the US as an intermediary
He himself hopes the UN can play this role, said the leader of the SPD parliamentary group. “But I doubt that Russia wants that.” Germany, on the other hand, will hardly be able to mediate because of its clear support for Ukraine.
