Enjoy this summer in Wales

In a previous post I had written about the Olympics in London and how you can check into some lovely properties which are giving away great deals around that time. Now since we have already figured you will be around the UK, I did a bit of research and came up with things for you to do at Wales as well, starting end of this month. So plan your holiday accordingly. Wales is a picturesque location that is a part of the United Kingdom and is situated to the west of England having a varied and dramatic landscape. It is also quite accessible from London or cities such as Birmingham and Manchester. A vibrant population fuels a cosmopolitan city atmosphere.Cardiff Castle stands at the heart of downtown and Edwardian shopping arcades (Britain’s first malls) house charming one-of-a-kind shops. Wales is home to 641 castles, more than any other country in Europe. You are encouraged to visit them: climb towers, walk ancient walls and explore dungeons. It’s rare to find three national parks in a country the size of Massachusetts. But in the Snowdonia, Pembrokeshire Coast and Brecon Beacons national parks you’ll discover unique landscapes and a world of outdoor adventure.  Royal connections abound and everyone can be spoiled by staying in hotels formerly owned by kings and queens.

Around 25 different competitions celebrate song, music and dance, climaxing with the prestigious ‘Choir of the World’ where winning choirs compete for the Pavarotti Trophy.
Wakestock – 6-8 July 2012
Europe’s largest wakeboard music festival takes place on the stunning Llyn Peninsula in North Wales. Wakestock 2012 has so much to offer in terms of a full fun packed weekend by the sea. The unique event also sees the world’s best wakeboarders take to the water. Wakestock UK are stoked to have some of the biggest names in the sport confirmed. World Alternative Games 17 Aug – 2 Sept
This is the essence of the first ever World Alternative Games which is to be held in Llanwrtyd Wells. We all grew up crooning Celine Dion’s “My Heart will go on” from the movie Titanic, and besides having a crush on Leonardo and cursing Kate for letting him lose his life the one thing that fascinated me and I am sure a lot of other people was the ship itself. It looked so grand and luxurious, the most romantic thing a girl could dream off (besides Leo’s lips ofcourse). Anyway that was 1997, where going on a cruise seemed like a fairytale, atleast to me who had even decided I will get married on a ship, I still want to if I do ever get married, well atleast sail to my honeymoon destination, oh well fine go on a vacation with my girl friends, basically a cruise has been my fantasy since 1997. Magic of France continues

Since we were talking of French interiors and Style a few days back, it is only logical that we continue the topic by incuding a bit of French arts and Crafts. This comes to us in the form of project Fort Royal. The Fort Royal project is a way in which the most respected craftsmen in the world can express themselves. It offers enthusiasts and experts – individuals, architects, interior decorators or institutions – unique access to exceptional works of craftsmanship.

In today’s economic climate, where competition for low-cost production has brought about an outburst of outsourcing and counterfeiting, French expertise and excellence are greatly under threat. As a consequence, a large number of companies in this field are finding themselves in difficulty. Access to the markets would ensure their continuity, but these companies lack the means to enter into these markets and the procedures to transmit their knowledge, due to a shortage of qualified and attentive business buyers. As such, certain gems from our arts and crafts are disappearing. The Fort Royal project aims to maintain and preserve these gems of French creativity. It allows them to exist and to expand by enhancing their management, by introducing them into a number of new outlets and by training new skilled workers and craftsmen. All this is necessary in order to continue to be able to offer the genuine quality of the original rather than the copy.

Fort Royal is committed to fulfilling high expectations, to authenticity and to innvation combined with tradition. It promotes the use of the finest materials crafted with perfect traditional techniques in order to produce durable, timeless works. With so many gems of French heritage to preserve, to bring forward into modernity and to showcase worldwide, Fort Royal aims to unite the commercial and management resources of craftsmen in order to enhance their savoir-faire. Together, it is possible to uphold this excellence on French soil, whilst also branching out to towards new international horizons.

The allure of France

France has been every girls fantasy destination. The romance it spells is the stuff dreams are made of and ofcourse some of the best romantic movies like Before Sunset (my all time favourite movie), Amelie and ofcourse Paris je’ Taime. Walk along the gorgeous Eiffel Tower backdropped by the River Seine.Sit by a charming French bistro, or have a picnic by the river banks, – every corner of Paris makes for excellent spots to romance your loved one. By night, the city seduces you with its elegant flair. But I want to concentrate on more than just the romantic aspect of Paris or France. I am referring to the amazing French Style, from the fashion to the decor to the architecture and food everything has its own charm. From the gourmet food, the breads, wine and cheese, pastries to the design houses like Christian Dior, Coco Chanel, Yves St Laurent, France truly epitomises style and elan.

Vintage French style inspires me as much as the modern look. Now that we all are in agreement that the French Style is undoubtedly amazing here are tips to re-create it at home. Starting with ofcourse the basic, furniture. Speaking of which, The Great Eastern Home unveils its most recent addition to its classical furniture with an exclusive range of Louis XVI French Furniture Collection. This exquisite range from The Great Eastern Homedawns a classic look that promises to transform a living room into a Classical French Ambiance, a place where you will feel like you’re in a luxurious French suite. As a part of the Louis XVI French Furniture Collection, The Great Eastern Home also offers a range of French mirrors, dining table and other furniture masterpieces that are available in limited editions. The Louis XVI French Furniture Collection is a tribute to people who love the feel of classic styled furniture and who want to give their home a classical French feel.

Add these products to complete that French inspiration to your house or a room in your house.

Towel rack, House of Ishatvam
Marie Antoinette Chandelier, Bisazza

Maisons Enchantant dinner collection, Hermes
Carved Mirror, Chelini

On a last note, since we are always talking about French Pastries, here is an old shoot of mine, with recipes to recreate the same at home. Oh and Delhi’s first French Bistro, Rara Avis opened doors to us this week. Review to follow soon
