Like every year, all of the world’s cinematography will be celebrated in this election, like India through L’ADVERSAIRE by Satyajit Ray, restored in 4K, or the United States with the 70th anniversary of CHANTONS SOUS LA RAIN by Gene Kelly and Stanley Donen. The “Olympic spirit” will also be shown through two films produced by the IOC: THE OFFICIAL FILM OF THE 2020 Olympic GAMES by Naomi Kawase and VISIONS OF EIGHT, the official 1972 Munich Olympics film co-directed by eight directors (Miloš Forman, Youri Ozerov, Claude Lelouch, Mai Zetterling, Michael Pfleghar, Kon Ichikawa, Arthur Penn, John Schlesinger) And finally a tribute to Jean-Claude Carrière.
THE MOTHER AND THE WHORE will open its Cannes Classics selection on May 17, nearly 50 years after its Cannes release where it won the Grand Jury Prize, opposite Jean-Pierre Léaud and the director’s son, Bris Eustache.
