RIYADH: Leading local and international artists will perform at AlUla to celebrate 92e Saudi National Day in September. The program was shown on 82 screens on Riyadh Boulevard City, featuring a five-minute performance by Saudi violinist and DJ Kayan, performing in front of the iconic AlUla Elephant Rock.
In its second edition, Azimuth, powered by MDLBEAST will host regional and local artists, including Kayan, Dorar, Solskin, Dish Dash, Baloo, Biirdperson, Nomad, Gooner, Nightmare on Wax Live, Anmarz, Vinyl Mode, Damian Lazarus, DJ Snake and Parov Stellar.
The event will start on Thursday, September 22, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day. On Fridays, the show will run from 4:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Saturdays.
“We are very excited to host Azimuth this year over the National Day weekend, in the stunning and enchanting atmosphere of AlUla”, launches DJ Saudi Baloo, the man behind Azimuth 2022.
The festival will take place in the same valley where the art exhibition is Desert X AlUla took place earlier this year. “Everything that has been developed for AlUla has been amazing and as music programmers we had to create a very special festival that fits into the magical space available to us,” he added.
Dorrar, Solskin, DJ Snake, Dish Dash, Damian Lazarus and Vinyl Mode will perform on the first dayAzimuth. On the second day, it was Kayan, Biirdperson, Gooner, Nightmare on Wax Live, Parov Stelar, ANMARZ and Baloo’s turn to go on stage.
Director of Marketing and Destination Management at the Royal Commission for AlUla, Philip Jones, said Arabic News that the main difference between MDLBEAST in Riyadh and AlUla is that “if we can accommodate 30,000 people in Riyadh, we can only accommodate a thousand people in AlUla”.
Jones said it was more of an individual, bespoke experience with a smaller crowd. “What we offer is so experiential that we will stand out because it fits AlUla’s image as an upscale luxury destination. So just think of it as a high-end luxury festival.”
This year, AlUla Moments will present several festivals and events: Azimuth, Winter in Tantora, The AlUla Health Festival and, for the first time, the Ancient Kingdom Festival, which draws inspiration from seven thousand successive years of civilization on the Arabian Peninsula and the famous Incense Route.
“In particular, we want to support and develop the entertainment sector in Saudi Arabia. As AlUla offers a great setting for film, entertainment and video, we wanted to leverage it to showcase this aspect, develop existing local talent and promote it,” said Mr. Jones.
